Acne Therapy
Acne is the most common skin condition within the United States and affects nearly 50 million Americans each year. Although acne typically begins during the teen years, it can be a challenge for adults of any age. And it is not limited to the face — acne can occur on the back, shoulders, neck, arms, chest, buttocks and anywhere else that is prone to excess oil production. No matter your age or the location of your acne, it can be a frustrating and embarrassing condition that undermines your self-image and your confidence.
Finding the best acne treatments in Dallas can be a daunting task. Many people turn to the aisles of their nearest drugstore in hopes of discovering a quick fix, but acne is a complex condition and over-the-counter products often yield disappointing results. Seeing a licensed medical provider can mean the difference between blemished skin and beautiful skin.
Sophia Michelle Aesthetics Acne Program
Educate – Treat – Prevent
At Sophia Michelle Aesthetics, we believe clients are empowered by understanding the causes of their acne, along with the most effective and safe treatment options available to them. Our clients want clear skin as quickly as possible, but also want lasting control. Sophia Michelle Aesthetics is committed to helping clients reach those goals through education and personalized treatment. We take a comprehensive approach to erasing acne, combining at-home care with in-office treatments to help our clients achieve smooth, healthy skin they are proud of.
Every face, and every breakout, is unique. Sophia Michelle Aesthetics understands that the inflammatory and bacterial acne phases can be challenging to get under control, and treats that period very differently than the controlled acne phase. Acne is caused by multiple factors, and solving each individual equation to develop an optimized treatment plan is what Sophia Michelle Aesthetics does best.
Acne Extractions
Almost everyone has popped a pimple — or at least been tempted to — but there are good reasons to leave the “popping” to the professionals. Squeezing blemishes can push bacteria deeper into your skin, leading to more inflammation and more noticeable acne, and increasing your risk of developing hyperpigmentation or permanent acne scars. An experienced aesthetic provider can safely and effectively remove blackheads and whiteheads using sterile instruments and advanced extraction techniques.
During an acne extraction appointment, the skin is cleansed and exfoliated and a topical anesthetic is applied. A special tool is then used to physically remove the blockages from clogged pores. This type of treatment is only used on acne that has not become inflamed. For larger cysts or nodules, an incision must be made with a sterile needle or blade to open the blemish and remove the contents. An initial series of one to three extraction sessions is typically recommended for best results, followed by maintenance treatments as necessary. Acne extraction can be used as part of a wider treatment regimen to maximize its effectiveness.
Salt Facial
The SaltFacial L’avantage™ is a unique three-in-one device that combines exfoliation, ultrasound and LED light therapy. The treatment begins with an all-natural exfoliation treatment that uses organic sea salt crystals to evenly remove the top layer of the skin (stratum corneum). In the second phase of treatment, ultrasound delivers antioxidants, peptides and hyaluronic acid deep into the tissue to nourish the skin from the inside out. The final step of treatment uses high-powered multi-wavelength LED lamps to treat acne, reduce inflammation, diminish redness and promote collagen production.
The SaltFacial L’avantage™ safe and effective for all skin types. There are no harsh chemicals, no significant side effects and no downtime. The SaltFacial L’avantage™ is the only system that exfoliates with all-natural sea salt, which has antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties, and aids in releasing toxins and impurities from clogged pores. It also helps balance oil production and kills bacteria that cause breakouts. Clients notice a difference in their skin after just one treatment. We recommend starting with three to six 45-minute sessions.
Chemical Peel
A clinical-strength chemical peel can treat congested pores, inflamed breakouts and acne-causing bacteria. By removing dead and damaged skin cells with a chemical solution, a peel detoxifies the skin while simultaneously hydrating, nourishing and smoothing away rough skin texture. At Sophia Michelle Aesthetics, we treat acne with the VI Purify peel from VI Aesthetics. VI Aesthetics specializes in comfortable chemical peels that require little downtime and deliver rapid results.
VI Purify is a targeted solution for oily, acne-prone skin. Its active ingredients include benzoyl peroxide, kojic acid, hydrocortisone, trichloroacetic acid, salicylic acid, retinoic acid, phenol, vitamin C and a proprietary mineral blend. This unique formula increases cellular turnover to open pores and reduce comedones, soothe redness and inflammation, kill p. acnes bacteria and balance the skin to reduce future breakouts. A typical chemical peel regimen begins with one to three treatments scheduled four weeks apart. Follow-up treatments can help keep your skin healthy and radiant over the long term. We will discuss a customized treatment schedule during your consultation.
Light Therapy
Light therapy, or phototherapy, is used to treat mild to moderate acne outbreaks. There are two main kinds of visible light therapy found in medical settings: blue light and red light. Each one has a specific use and different advantages for clients seeking acne treatment. Blue light therapy is commonly used to treat breakouts because the wavelength of blue light has an antimicrobial effect. In addition to killing bacteria, blue light therapy has anti-inflammatory and anti-aging benefits. Red light therapy helps soothe and repair tissue, and has anti-inflammatory capabilities. You may benefit from one type or the other, or a combination of both.
Photodynamic therapy combines light therapy with topical medication to maximize results. The medication, called a photosensitizer or photosensitizing agent, is applied to the skin and allowed to sit for a prescribed period of time. It is then exposed to a specific wavelength of light for approximately 15 minutes. The medication makes the skin more sensitive to light therapy to boost its benefits. This treatment is becoming more common, but should be reserved for clients who have not seen success with other modalities.
